Why choose Gocek

Located on the southwest coast of Turkey, Gocek was known as "Kalimche" in ancient times, as it was a part of the old Lycian settlements. There are very few ruins from that period found around Gocek; fortunately, the nearby settlement of Fethiye provides plenty of chances for archaeological sightseeing. On the nearby peninsula of Kapidag, lie the ancient cities of Krya, Lisai and Lydai, ideal locations for one day sailing trips. Gocek was declared an area of special protection in 1998, when the local council decided that buildings with two or more floors are not allowed within city limits. This decision caused urban planning to be very regarding to nature, producing a village that harmoniously blends with the local flora. Gocek is also recognized as an international sailing destination because of six marinas in the vicinity: Marinturk Gocek Exclusive, Club Marina, Marinturk Gocek Village, Port Municipality Marina, D-Marin Gocek and the Skopea Marina, all offering up-to-date nautical facilities and the best deals for chartered yachts, either bareboat or skippered.

The main street of Turgut Ozal offers numerous chances to buy locally grown produce and souvenirs in form of carpets, textiles and other curiosities. There is also a possibility to grab a bite in some of the local restaurants, serving only the finest traditional mouth-watering delicacies, fresh seafood and Turkish pastries. There is very few to do after midnight in Gocek, so party goers will have to find somewhere else to satisfy their night-life needs. Outside Gocek, travellers will want to seek out many archaeological sights found at the nearby town of Fethiye, which features ancient cities from the Lycian period, like Xanthos, Pınara and Patara. After some visual lessons in history, there is no better way to let the knowledge sink in than taking a dip in one of many beautiful beaches, in the vicinity of Gocek. Inlice Beach is the closest one to Gocek, but not the most beautiful because that spot is reserved for the fabulous Iztuzu beach, a sandy stripe of shore located in the Dalyan river delta.

Sailing season - When to charter in Gocek?

Gocek boasts sunny days that last throughout the year. More than three hundred days of sun await seafarers that are sailing in the waters around Gocek. This above average temperature makes growth of lemons, oranges, tangerines and other exotic fruits easy and "fruitful". During the summer, from June to August, air temperatures can reach an astounding 40 degrees Celsius, but sea temperatures stay between 20 and 24 degrees, ideal for a refreshing dip. Dry and hot summers and wet and windy winters are the standard features of a Mediterranean climate, and Gocek satisfies all the criteria to call it a typical Mediterranean settlement. For those not adjusted to high temperatures, a visit in May or October would be a perfect fit, because of the warm days, but the evenings bring perfect conditions for an ideal night`s rest.
